Who to call about a scam

Official phone numbers and websites for reporting a scam or identity theft, each checked on the agency's own site. The official website address or phone number is displayed before you open anything.

If money left a bank or card account, call the number on the back of your card or on a statement first, not a number from a call or message. To file a local police report, use the non-emergency number on your police department's official website.

Report identity theft to the FTC and get a free recovery plan. In Spanish, use RobodeIdentidad.gov. To report in another language, call 877-438-4338 and press 3; interpreters are available 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern.

FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center

Report online fraud and cybercrime to the FBI's IC3. The IC3 says it will never directly contact you for information or money.
